Summer Plans

This is the typical month that everybody is hating university (or school, or work) because is almost the end of the year but also the final works and exams have to be done. Or at least that is my feeling in october and november. So the best way to pass these months is doing summer plans.

First of all, I only like summer being in the beach. In the city I hate it, so I would like to go to some beach or to somewhere cold, like the south of Chile. I don’t really have plans already, but every summer I go with my friends to viña del mar, so I think that will be one of the places to visit. Maybe also with my family I will go to some place, if we can found dates that we all can go out.



I don´t really plan to work because next summer vacations I will do the practice. So I will not have large vacations till I graduate. But if I found some Good oportunity in a work that I like, I am not closed to do it. It can help me to afford the vacations too.

So I really want to be in december now, so hopefully this month and a half passes quickly. And then I will do real plans with my friends and family.

Bucket List

I´ve never think in my Bucket List seriously. I see it a lot in social media, and also in english classes at school I had to do this same exercise, but I remember me thnikning a lot my list and writting somwthing only for finishing the work.

I think that I project myself more in a short term than in a log one. That is why I think is difficult to me doing this exercise. So, I will put here my short term Bucket List:

-Stop smoking: a few days ago I start without smoking and I really want to quit it. Is very difficult but I suprised myself because I keep going.
-Obviously everybody have in their Bucket List some trips. I don´t know if I can do them, also in a short term would be difficult, but I really like to go to many places in the world. If I have to choose some countries their will be: Japan, India, France
-Also something that I´ve been thinking a loti s to learn piano. Since I am a child I play guitar and I would like to improve my abilities with the piano. I think because of the time I´ve never learn. Maybe in these vacations I can do it.



In a long term I can mención typical things like have a great job, or have a nice house at the beach, but I don´t really know if I want these things. I put in the list what I really know that I want now, and what is really possible. 

Posgraduate Studies

Right now I am not considering to do postgraduate studies. I just want to work, hopefully in mass media, and then I´ll see. I think that doing a magister without knowing how is the work, or without knowing if is really helpful do keep studiyng, doesn’t have much sense. A couple of years ago I was thinking of doing a social communication magister, or something that helps me to learn about documentaries, here in the same university, but then I think: “what if I don’t like mass media?”. It can be a waste of time. And also it can close doors to work in another kind of things.



In the case of doing some study after I graduate, it will be on the subject or area that I work before. Who knows, maybe I don’t work as a journalist in the future. Maybe I decide to be a professor, or dedicate to something else because I didn’t like (or find) the adequate job to me. Also if I do some magister, I don’t really know where. Maybe I am not in Chile in a couple of years. And it that case, to study in other language could be really hard.

So, for now, I only want to end the career that I am now, and then I´ll see. Maybe in a couple of years I change my mind.

My future job

In the future I would like to work in massive media. But that, in these years, is a problem because press, radio or TV are not hiring a lot of people. So to have a space in that area now is very difficult. The other option of work being a journalist is in business or social organizations. Taking care of their internal and external communications. But that kind of job doesn’t motivate me a lot, but I know that work conditions and salary are better that in massive media.

I think that next year I’ll try do to my practice, hopefully, in press. A newspaper would be perfect, but radio or TV is also good. There I can evaluate the work conditions, salary and possibilities of moving forward there. If I like it, I’ll try to stay there. But if I don´t, maybe I change my thoughts of my ideal job.



Also I would like to study something else. Not necessarily another career, but maybe a minor or a magister in the area that I know that I can work and I like it. For example, if I am working in mass media, do a magister of social communication. Or if I am working in internal communication of business organizations, do a magister that helps me in that job. 

Books and authors

Is difficult to choose a favorite book. Many of them come to my mind, but I cannot put one upon another. Each one has a different story, style and topics. So I can only rank the books of the same author. And also, obviously I have my favorite ones.

In a quick reflection, I think that my favorite authors are:
Julia Navarro, a Spanish journalist who writes historical novels. I like them a lot because it includes political and social facts in a fiction story. Also the characters are so realistic. The last one that I´ve read is “You will not kill”. A story of the Spanish civil war of the 20s.
Ryszard Kapuscinski, a polish journalist that has a big variety of stories. In most cases are real tales that he recover as a reporter. My favorite one is “Another day of life”, that takes place in the independence of Angola from the Portuguese people in the 60s.
Michel Houellbecq, a French novelist that writes stories about solitary people in depressive situations. His reflections about culture and European polithics are very interesting. The last one from him that I´ve read is “Soumission”, that takes place in a fictional France governed by muslims.



The last book that I´ve read, the last week, is “Animal Farm”, by George Orwell. Is a satiric story of the Russian revolution. The characters are animals, and Russian governors of that times are pigs. I recommend it.

Movies: "Who loves Gilbert Grape?" and "Once uppon a time in Hollywood"

My favorite movie is “Who loves Gilbert Grape?”. I watched it randomly, only because in Netflix I saw that Di Caprio acts on it when he was 9 years old. He interpreted a child with mental disabilities, and I couldn’t understand how he was capable at that age to do such a impressive imitation of that condition. Also, Johnny Depp acts in the movie, like the big brother of Di Caprio. He was 24 years old. The movie was nominated to Golden Globes and Oscar prices. 

I like this kind of movies. Social drama, also historic movies sometimes. But lately I’ve been watching more documentaries than movies. I feel that every Netflix movie is similar, or maybe I am trapped in the algorithm.

The last movie I saw was “Once upon a time in Hollywood”, of Tarantino. Also, Di Caprio acts on it. And is the first time that we do it at the side of Brad Pitt. I think is a great movie, but unnecessarily long. I think the conflict doesn’t cook itself in 2 hours, and suddenly everything is going on. I would recommend it only to Tarantino fans.  

My first concert – Jack Johnson

I remember that my first concert was in 2013, I think. It was the first time that Jack Johnson came to Chile, and he and his band played in Movistar Arena.

In that time I was in the school, in 10^th grade. With my friends we were listening a lot of this type of music. Folk rock and a bit of country, sometimes also Hawaiian and some reggae. I remember that one of them told me of the concert, and we made a group of three inmediatly.

We arrived very early to the Arena, because we had the cheapest tickets, without seats. When we enter, we get very close to the stage. So when the concert started, we saw the musicians sharply. They were presenting a new disc, but also they played the most popular songs. My favorites were “Banana Pancakes” and “Good People”. Also I remember that Jack Johnson invited the chilean Manuel Garcia to sing, and I didn’t knew the song. I liked it, but my friends thought that it was boring.

In general, the concert was very calmed. Is mousic that you don’t dance or jump with, only listen and appreciate rhythms and a lot of instruments.
